We welcome you to Omar’s with a big hello, a pat on the back, and halal food authentic to the Mediterranean.
Like a true New Yorker, before Omar Abouzaid became the proud owner of his own company, he worked in a bagel shop. Recalling it as one of his fondest jobs, “at that time, I didn’t speak very good English, but she asked me to manage the place.”
What would seem like a bold move for an English-speaking company was a smart move – they bet on Omar’s outstanding character and care for his team. Everyone thrived at the bagel store. Eventually he left to open his own shop. A few turns around the sun later; Omar’s opened its doors for its 5th location in Manhattan.
Omar’s impact in his career is that he truly cares for everyone he’s around. He has spent over 50 years building a community since moving to America in the 1970’s from Egypt. Quite a few of his employees have worked with him for around 20 years. Omar knows all their kids, grandkids, and partner’s names. It’s a running joke, though, that he can’t remember his manager, Marek’s, dog’s name no matter how hard he tries.
Our food at Omar’s is halal with ties to the Mediterranean and our owner’s Egyptian heritage. The teams at each restaurant collaborate to bring you the best, freshest food; served affordably and quickly to match the pace of the city.
Everyone is welcome at Omar’s, especially by the man himself who stays on the floor of his many locations during the lunch rush to greet all the guests and support his team. A subtle way we show inclusivity is the variety of music in our shop: one day East Coast Hip-Hop and another day Lebanese (Nancy Ajram specifically). Sometimes, you can spot some of Omar’s favorite American singers on the speakers: Donna Summer, Kenny Rogers, and Willie Nelson.
